Resident Artist

Our Artist in Residence, Ms. Jane, provides fine arts instruction to all students regularly, encouraging your child to attempt new things, see the world in a variety of ways, learn to express themselves through art and grow confident that their art is worthwhile and beautiful. Individualized art lessons for each grade level include art history, art theory and hands-on workshops, with positive reinforcement for every child’s efforts. Our Resident Artist collaborates with each grade level to align your child’s projects with topics covered in the classroom, Common Core Standards and STEAM. Learn more about Ms. Jane here.

This program is supported by the Parent Teacher Group (PTG) and the principal, staff and teachers.

School Gardens

David Lubin’s three gardens enhance your child’s education, adding hands-on learning to their science education and a peaceful oasis to their day.

  • The charming alphabetic “kinder-garden” introduces young children to garden sciences and reinforces everyday learning such as reading.
  • Your child will continue to experience garden science through classroom gardens, where the children and their teachers grow variety of flowers and vegetables to see the growth processes while measuring and studying the process.
  • The Peace Garden is a unique and beautiful space where your child can step out of the surrounding bustle of the playground to explore and experience nature. A kaleidoscope of trees, perennial plants, annual flowers and bulbs create quiet, shady spaces filled with textures and colors that change with the seasons.

This program is supported by the Parent Teacher Group (PTG) and the principal, staff and teachers.

Field Trips

Field trips are an important part of our program. Our offsite field trips not only reinforce and enhance classroom learning, but expand their understanding of career opportunities and foster interest in scientific inquiry and art. Our 6th graders spend 5-days at the Sly Park outdoor, science education camp. Our fifth graders spend one week (not sleep over) at the STARBASE STEM camp; fourth graders learn period skills and spend the night at Sutter’s Fort as part of their immersive progam, available to less than 50 schools in California. Field trips for lower grades are science and art focused and included places such as farms, Sacramento Zoo, Museum of Science and Curiosity, children’s theaters and others.

Field trips are supported by the Parent Teacher Group (PTG) and the principal, staff and teachers.
